Qantas computer stuffs plane

Some of us who use our laptops onboard an aircraft can breathe a sigh of relief. Just. After earlier speculation that last week’s QF72 incident may have been caused by a passenger’s laptop, it now turns out that the culprit is none other than the aircraft’s own air data computer which, according to the SMH, “sent erroneous information to the flight control computer causing the autopilot to disconnect”.

Very scary indeed, but not enough to get me away from the national airline as my flights with them have been good.  Still, I do wish that they sort themselves out pretty quickly as all these bad news over the last couple of months are irritating mine, and I’m sure other people’s, confidence.
